A significant number of our attorneys began their legal careers working for major regional, national and international law firms before deciding to join Berger Singerman.  Other of our attorneys gained valuable prior experience working as general counsel to companies in a number of different industries, or in important public service roles.  The following are some examples of the experience of our colleagues:

  • Presidential appointee to the Board of Directors of Sallie Mae, and served as Chairman of the Board of Sallie Mae for three years, during which time the company had annual revenues in excess of $3 billion
  • Former Secretary of Labor and Employment Security for the State of Florida, as well as Assistant General Counsel to Florida Governor Bob Graham
  • Former Executive Director of the South Florida Water Management District who served for 5 years
  • Former General Counsel and Deputy Secretary to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (formerly called the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation)
  • Former Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan, and in such capacity presided over the bankruptcy case of Dow Corning, one of the largest bankruptcy cases in the country
  • Former Statewide Prosecutor for the Florida Attorney General's Office
  • Former Chairs of the Business Law Section of The Florida Bar (elected to that position by the approximately 4,000 members of the Business Law Section)
  • Former Chair of the Criminal Law Section of The Florida Bar
  • Former clerks for Justices of the Supreme Court of Florida
  • Former clerks for a former Chief Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida; Bankruptcy Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida; and Bankruptcy Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida.
